Receipt scanner app for iPhone
A receipt scanner is only useful if the record it leaves behind is correct. Here is exactly what Receipt Organizer reads from a receipt, what it asks you to confirm, and what it never does.
What the scan captures
Point the camera at a receipt, or import an image or file you already have. The app runs text recognition on the device and pulls out four things:
- Merchant — the business name printed at the top.
- Date — the transaction date on the receipt.
- Amounts — total, subtotal, and tax as separate fields.
- The image itself — kept with the record, so the original is never separated from the numbers.
Why it asks you to confirm
Faded thermal paper, folded corners, and handwritten tips all defeat text recognition some of the time. Rather than hide that, the app marks a record as needing review and shows the extracted fields next to the original image so you can correct them before saving. A record you have checked is marked Reviewed.
This matters at export time: you can include or exclude records that still need review, so a package you hand to an accountant does not silently carry a misread total.
Where the data goes
Nowhere. There is no account, no sync service, and no Receipt Organizer server. Text recognition, search, and export all happen on the device, which is also why the scanner works with no network connection at all.
